The phrase “bidden or not bidden, God is present” is commonly attributed to Carl Jung, the Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst who founded analytical psychology. It is often quoted in Latin as “Vocatus atque non vocatus, Deus aderit.” This phrase encapsulates the idea that the presence of the divine or a higher power is not contingent upon human invocation or acknowledgment; rather, it is a constant and omnipresent reality.

Jung had this phrase inscribed above the door of his house as a reminder of the ever-present nature of the divine, regardless of one’s conscious recognition of it. The quote emphasizes a fundamental tenet of Jung’s belief in the importance of the unconscious and the spiritual in the human experience.
