Description

A series of mugs for Abbeyleix GAA, affectionately known as ‘the Fung’.

Origin of the Fung:

The old boots worn during games in the 1940’s and 50’s consisted of a piece of leather around the lace area, which was called the fung. Players at that time couldn’t afford new boots so old boots were constatntly mended and patched up by the local cobbler. To this day some locals pronounce Abbeyleix as Abbey-Lace. So the cobbler on handing over the repaired boots adapted the phrase, ‘Are you togging out for ‘Abbey-Lace?’ to ‘Are you togging out for ‘The Fung’ today?.

€3.50 from the sale of these mugs is going straight to Abbeyleix GAA club.

Printed right here in Abbeyleix.
