Description
Colour meets metal. Handcrafted in Ireland by Ruth at DANU Ceramics, these glazed brass pendant earrings are a true hybrid—combining the warmth of brass with the vibrancy of ceramic glaze. Each earring features textured brass forms, selectively glazed in rich, jewel-like colours, then accented with small brass beads that catch light and movement.
Ruth begins with raw brass sheet, hand-cutting each pendant shape—often teardrops, circles, slim rectangles, or organic freeform silhouettes. Before glazing, she textures the brass using hammers, stamps, or rolling mills, creating surfaces that ripple, dimple, or softly groove. This texture serves two purposes: it catches light beautifully, and it gives the liquid glaze something to grip.
Using fine brushes, Ruth applies ceramic glazes directly onto the prepared brass surface. The glaze palette is rich and varied:
-
Teal – Deep, peacock-inspired, with blue-green depth.
-
Blue – Clear and confident, like cobalt glass.
-
Red – Warm and earthy, a rust-tinged or true crimson.
-
Pink – Soft, dusty rose or vivid blossom.
-
White – Opaque and clean, a creamy or bright porcelain tone.
The glaze is not applied solidly. Instead, Ruth allows it to pool in the brass texture’s crevices and fade across raised areas, creating natural gradients and unexpected colour shifts. Once fired, the glaze fuses to the brass surface, becoming permanent, durable, and subtly dimensional.
Dangling from or alongside the glazed brass pendant are small brass beads—handmade or carefully sourced—that add weight, movement, and a melodic soft clink. The beads may sit on a thin brass wire below the pendant, swing freely as charms, or be threaded along the earring’s lower edge.
Each earring hangs from a gold fill hook (hypoallergenic and comfortable). Because every pendant is hand-cut, hand-textured, and hand-glazed, no two pairs are identical. Wear them as wearable art—bold, colourful, and unmistakably Irish.
