Description
Geometry meets the hive. Handcrafted in Ireland by Ruth at DANU Ceramics, this necklace pairs a striking black ceramic hexagon with a tiny brass bee charm—a study in contrasts between the stark, modern and the soft, organic. Finished with a single 24-carat gold accent, it is minimalism with a pulse.
The hexagon is a form rich with meaning: the shape of honeycomb, the architecture of the natural world, a symbol of balance and efficiency. Ruth hand-sculpts each pendant from black clay, firing it to a deep, matte darkness that absorbs light rather than reflecting it. The surface is velvety, almost lunar, providing the perfect canvas for a single 24-carat gold detail—a fine line traced along one edge, a tiny gilded dot at the centre, or a delicate gold rim on one face only. This restraint is intentional: the gold does not shout; it whispers.
Suspended alongside or slightly below the hexagon is a brass bee charm, cut from solid brass sheet. The bee is small—roughly 8–10mm—with subtle wings and body detail. Over time, the brass will develop a warm patina, echoing the natural ageing of a real hive. Positioned beside the cool, rigid ceramic, the bee brings movement, softness, and a touch of dark whimsy.
The pendant hangs from a gold fill chain, which ties together the gold accent and the brass tones beautifully. Available in one balanced size (approximately 18–20mm across the hexagon), this piece is subtle enough for daily wear yet distinctive enough to spark conversation.
Each hexagon is individually shaped, and each gold accent is painted by Ruth’s hand, ensuring slight variations that make your necklace entirely unique. Wear it as a tribute to nature’s genius, to quiet industry, or simply to the beauty of black and gold.
